Cheerios Caramel Crunch (Snack)

(8 servings)

  • 1/2 cup butter - cubed
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar - packed
  • 4 cups Cheerios cereal
In a large sauce pan, melt the butter over medium-low heat.

Add the brown sugar and cook until thick and smooth - stirring often.

If your sauce pan is large enough, add the cereal and stir until completely coated.

It also works if you put the cereal in a large bowl and drizzle the sauce over the cereal - stirring the whole time.

Spread the cereal out over sheets of wax paper to cool.

Stores well in an airtight container for two weeks.

* In the original recipe I found, it told me to crumble the Cheerios when cool. I go another way. While still warm, I squeeze some of the pieces together. Then when you eat it later, it's not all uniform... you get occasional special bites or clumps.

I'm a cereal junky. This is one of my favorite sweet snacks. While it's not a "healthy" recipe, I promise that it's healthier and cheaper than most sweet snacks in your grocery store snack area, If you feel salty, try drizzling melted butter over puffed rice with a couple dashes of salt. Cereal... not just for breakfast!
