Deep Fried Apple Fritters

(25 servings)

  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of unpeeled apples (finely diced or grated)
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of grated orange peel
  • 3 tablespoons of orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • confectioner's sugar
  • vegetable oil (1 quart)
In your mixing bowl add your beaten egg along with the milk, apples, sugar, salt, orange peel, orange juice and the vanilla.

Sift the flour and baking powder together and fold into the apple mixture.

Stir this until all the flour is moistened.

Drop batter by a rounded teaspoon into the hot oil (350 degrees).

Fry until deep golden brown (about 3-4 minutes).

Drain the fritters thoroughly on paper towels.

Roll in the confectioner's sugar or sift the sugar over the tops.

This should make about 40 fritters - great for a party as well.
