Sheera Porridge (India)

  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the flour and butter until a paste forms. Saute until slightly browned.

Stir in all remaining ingredients. Mix well. Remove from heat and cover. Allow porridge to set for 5 minutes until water is absorbed.

Distribute warm porridge to serving bowls. Sprinkle with coconut. Enjoy!


This sweet wheat porridge is also great with raisins (2 Tablespoons) and sliced almonds (1 Tablespoon) in place of the coconut. Add them after you remove the pan from the heat.
