Natto (Japan)

(2 servings)

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 packages natto soybeans
  • 2 packets Japanese mustard
  • 2 packets Tare (Japanese sauce)
Cook the rice.

Open the natto package and mix in the mustard and tare sauce (you could use soy sauce if you can't find the Tare).

Pour natto over bowl of rice and enjoy.

Natto are steamed, fermented and mashed soybeans and it has a strong cheese-like flavor. In Japan, it's often served over rice as a breakfast dish. It is also used as a condiment during other meals.
