Make-Ahead Peppermint Mocha Frappe

  • 1 cup very strong dark roast coffee - hot
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
  • 3 drops peppermint extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar - optional
  • additional milk - for blending
  • whipped cream - optional
  • crushed candy cane - for garnish
This homemade holiday drink is every bit as good as its big name coffee shop equivalents. I love that you can prep as many as you want and have an icy taste of Christmas anytime the mood strikes just by just plopping a few ice cubes in a blender. You should note that a little bit of extra sugar makes a huge difference, so I recommend using that optional ingredient. Incidentally, to make an excellent Mocha Frappe without peppermint, simply omit the peppermint. Makes sense, right? I absolutely loved this drink. (This recipe was developed, tested and photographed in December 2015.)

How To Make A Peppermint Mocha Frappe

In a large measuring cup with a pour spout, stir the chocolate syrup and peppermint into the hot coffee. Add the milk and stir to combine. Taste for sweetness. Add optional sugar if desired.

Pour mixture into 2 ice cube trays. Freeze at least 4 hours.

When ready to serve, simply place the ice cubes in a blender and pulse until cubes are pulverized. Add milk to as you blend to get the consistency you want. I used 3/4 cup additional milk for mine.

If desired, top with whipped cream and garnish with crushed candy canes or peppermint candies.


Making A Peppermint Mocha Frappe


Recipe Notes:

If you don't have peppermint extract, you could use 1 mini candy cane, 1/4 of a standard candy cane or 2 round peppermint candies. Just freeze everything as directed and then add the candy to the blender with the ice cubes. You'll get occasional crunchy specks in the drink, but there's some people who actually prefer that.

Special Equipment: For this recipe, I used the Ninja Coffee Bar to make espresso-strength coffee and the Nutri Ninja to blend everything together.
