Swiss Almond Muesli

Swiss Almond Muesli

(8 servings)    Printable Version
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup diced dried apples
  • 1/2 cup toasted wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup slivered blanched almonds
  • 1/4 cup hulled but not toasted sunflower seeds (raw sunflower seeds)
  • 2 Tablespoons packed light brown sugar
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl or airtight container. Store in cool dry place or in refrigerator. Best eaten within a couple of weeks. Serve with milk.

To quickly toast the wheat germ, you can put it in a skillet over medium heat. Stirring often, fry just until fragrant and toasty in color.

A lovely, healthy mix of oats, apples, raisins, almonds and sunflower seeds with wheat germ for added nutrition.

If you toast the wheat germ, you should toast the oats too... just until they brown a little. It gives the muesli more overall flavor. I use a combination of raisins and dried cranberries and omit the apple pieces.
