Old Fashioned Gingerbread Waffles

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 egg - well beaten
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
Put butter and molasses in a sauce pan and slowly bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add baking soda, milk, and egg. Mix well. Then add rest of ingredients being sure batter is well mixed.

Make waffles as usual in hot waffle iron. Great served with whipped cream and nutmeg.


Sour milk can be made by adding about a tablespoon of lemon juice to room temp milk.
