Newfoundland French Toast

Newfoundland French Toast

(4 servings)    Printable Version
  • 8 slices of dry white bread
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs - beaten
  • 2 Tablespoons molasses
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
In a large shallow dish, mix together the milk, egg, molasses and salt.

Heat a large skillet to medium heat. Melt the butter. Reduce heat slightly if it starts to brown.

Dip the bread slices into the egg and milk mixture until well-coated on both sides. Fry slices in the pan until golden brown on each side.

Add more butter to the pan if necessary.

Serve hot with butter and maple syrup.

It's a hit of molasses that makes this French Toast unique.
