Food is just exceptional - they bring you coffee if you are waiting in line - nice staff - we haven't found a better place for breakfast in Portland.

This was our second time here. The first time was over a year ago and we really loved the food. However this time not so much. New Years day....breakfast around 8:30. Potatoes were cold. I ordered an OJ and reminded the waitress a second time. She thanked me for reminding her but I never did receive the OJ. When we were almost finished eating, my husband ordered an OJ just to prove a point and she NEVER apologized for her error!!! she never even offered to bring it right then and there!! There were only 6 tables occupied so NO excuse!! We will NEVER go there again and we have lots of friends that live around that area!!!

OMG. My wife and I have been regular patrons of the John Street basically since it opened. When we moved to the east coast, and came back to Portland for a wedding, we made a special trip just to eat here before our flight. Wonderful recipes, fresh ingredients, and the owners are just some of the best people you'd ever want to meet. Even our kids like eating here. My favorite is the spinach and bacon omelette.

This is my favorite breakfast place--and it's right in my NoPo backyard. The food is very fresh, tasty, and interesting without being over-the-top snobby gourmet. Portion sizes are perfect, and coffee keeps on coming. The owner seems to know us all and the wait staff is helpful without being intrusive. The service area is warm and comfortable and the outdoor patio is surrounded by a lovely garden with unique plants. I take everyone here without a single complaint yet! Don't miss this place.

Excellent food. Great Coffee. Be sure to check out the specials on the board. Jamie is usually more than happy to get you a cup of coffee if you are waiting to be seated. Best oatmeal in town with nuts and dried fruit. Also, check out the black bean omlette or the bacavo omlette.
