Ruthie's is one of the last of the great diners in Pennsylvania. Formerly called "Bernsie's," the now-remodeled diner still has a homey, nostalgic feel and welcoming smell of homestyle cooking. Ruthie's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week from opening until closing. The breakfast, though, is the true highlight of the experience -- especially on the weekends-- and you can't beat their fresh-from-the-hog-this-morning thick-sliced bacon, done chewy or crispy, and their mouth-watering deep-fried homefries smothered in beef gravy. Their special includes these items as well as two eggs prepared your way, and two slices of toast (white, wheat, or rye) -- all for about $3.00.
You also cannot beat their buttermilk pancakes or their buckwheat cakes. Both are thick and fluffy, and if you like your buckwheats done the southwestern PA way, try them with beef gravy instead of maple syrup...
Service is casual and friendly, and ever prompt in bringing mass quantities of their rich blend of coffee. Ruthie's appeals to all family types, and you certainly can't miss this outpost of morning delights! Stop by if you're in the area.
