This cereal is described on the front of the box as "naturally and artificially flavored sweetened chocolate squares."

The back of the box explains how the cereal was created:

"You'll go cuckooo for new Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch. Sonny went a little bonkers in the bakery and now every little brownie is packed with so much chocolatey flavor that you can't help but go cuckoo!"

Sonny refers to the cereal's cartoon representative, a hyper cuckoo bird who first appeared in commercials for original Cocoa Puffs cereal in 1963.
